Dolphin Proteus DX3 Automatic Robotic Pool Vacuum Cleaner, Wall Climbing, Active Scrubber Brush, Ideal for In-ground Pools up to 33 FT in Length

The Dolphin Proteus DX3 is a high-utility workhorse engineered for in-ground pools up to 33 feet. Its primary advantage is the Active Scrubbing brush, which spins twice as fast as the robot moves to physically agitate and lift stuck-on debris that suction-only cleaners leave behind. Unlike many entry-level models that are confined to the floor, the DX3 features reliable wall-climbing capabilities, ensuring thorough coverage of the pool’s vertical surfaces. The top-load filter basket is a significant ergonomics win, allowing for quick debris removal without the need to flip the unit over.

### Value vs. Trade-off

The Strengths
The DX3 delivers consistent physical agitation and multi-surface cleaning (floor and walls) at a price point where many competitors only offer floor suction. Its lightweight 15-pound frame makes it easy to retrieve, and the built-in weekly timer allows for automated maintenance cycles without manual intervention.

The Trade-offs
To maintain its aggressive price, the DX3 omits a swivel cable, meaning the 50-foot cord may require occasional manual untangling. It also lacks dedicated waterline scrubbing, so while it climbs walls, it won't dwell at the tile line to remove "scum" rings. The standard mesh filtration is excellent for leaves and large debris but may struggle to capture micro-fine silt or algae without an optional filter upgrade.

The Bottom Line
Despite the lack of a swivel cord or waterline-specific cleaning, the DX3 remains a top-tier value. You are paying for mechanical scrubbing power and wall coverage rather than expensive "smart" features or app connectivity. For owners of smaller pools looking for a reliable, plug-and-play solution that handles the heavy lifting of pool maintenance, the DX3 is a calculated, high-ROI investment.
