SAMSUNG Odyssey G5 34-Inch Ultra-Wide Curved Gaming Monitor, 165Hz, 1ms, WQHD, FreeSync Premium, HDR10, Black

The Value

The Samsung Odyssey G5 is a specialized tool for immersion-focused gaming. Its standout feature is the 1000R curvature, which matches the human field of view more closely than standard 1500R or 1800R screens, significantly reducing eye strain during long sessions. You’re getting a 34-inch WQHD ultrawide panel with a 165Hz refresh rate, offering a massive amount of screen real estate for both cinematic gaming and productivity. Because it uses a VA panel, the contrast levels are deep and punchy, making it superior to budget IPS monitors for dark-room gaming and movie watching.

The Trade-off

To hit this aggressive price point, Samsung made clear compromises. As with most budget VA panels, there is noticeable black smearing during fast-moving dark scenes, which might bother competitive FPS players. The HDR10 support is basic; without high peak brightness or local dimming, it provides little more than a slight color boost. Furthermore, the included stand is strictly functional, offering only tilt adjustment and no height or swivel options, likely necessitating an aftermarket VESA mount for a truly ergonomic setup.

The Verdict

The Samsung G5 is a "best-in-class" value proposition for players who prioritize immersion over professional-grade color accuracy. While the motion handling and stand aren't perfect, these are standard concessions in the budget ultrawide category. When you consider that you are getting a high-refresh, 1440p curved ultrawide for the price of many standard 27-inch monitors, the G5 remains a premier "buy" for any gamer looking to upgrade to a panoramic experience without the premium price tag.
