Fluance RT85 Turntable with Ortofon 2M Blue Cartridge, Acrylic Platter, Walnut Finish

The Verdict
The Fluance RT85 is a masterclass in strategic component allocation. By prioritizing a high-end Ortofon 2M Blue cartridge and a high-density acrylic platter, Fluance delivers a sonic performance that punches significantly above its weight class. Users praise the exceptional clarity, tight bass, and 3-dimensional soundstage typically reserved for much more expensive decks. The integrated optical sensor continuously monitors the motor to ensure a precise 0.07% wow/flutter, maintaining rock-solid pitch stability.

Value vs. Trade-off
The primary "missing" feature is an internal phono preamp, meaning you must factor in the cost of an external stage or an amplifier with a dedicated phono input. Furthermore, while the auto-stop functionality protects your stylus from unnecessary wear, the unit is entirely manual, requiring you to physically cue the needle for every play.

However, these omissions are exactly why the RT85 succeeds. By stripping away cheap internal electronics, Fluance provides a pure analog signal path and premium hardware. When you consider that the Ortofon 2M Blue cartridge alone retails for nearly half the price of the entire turntable, the value proposition is undeniable. It is the definitive "step-up" turntable for listeners who want genuine audiophile performance without the four-figure price tag.
