The chipset brand is the company that designs the actual graphics processor at the heart of the card. Everything else on the listing — the cooler, the lights, the box art — is built around this one decision, so start here.
- Nvidia — The market leader and the safe default. Nvidia holds a commanding lead in ray tracing performance and its DLSS upscaling is the most mature and most widely supported. It also dominates in professional and AI workloads thanks to CUDA, which many creative and machine learning applications are built specifically to use. The trade-off is price: you generally pay a premium for the same raw rasterization performance.
- AMD — The value play. AMD Radeon cards typically offer more memory and more traditional gaming performance per dollar than an equivalently priced Nvidia card.
